Grand Slam Track: Kingston – Alison Dos Santos Wins 400m In 45.52 To Sweep Men's Long Hurdles Races
Video

Brazil’s Alison dos Santos, the 2022 World champion in the 400m hurdles, proved he’s more than just a hurdler by winning the flat 400m at Grand Slam Track Kingston in a close, strategic race. Lining up against a talented field that included Caleb Dean and Chris Robinson of the U.S., dos Santos had to work for this one. Dean got out hard from lane six, while Robinson—last year’s NCAA 400m hurdles runner-up—applied pressure from behind. But dos Santos showed his strength in the final stretch to surge ahead and take the victory. This win, combined with his earlier 400m hurdles triumph on Friday, means dos Santos swept the Men’s Long Hurdles event group and walks away with the $100,000 Slam Champion title at the first Grand Slam Track meet. GRAND SLAM TRACK KINGSTON DAY 3 REACTION SHOW – SYDNEY MCLAUGHLIN DOMINATES AGAIN, GRANT FISHER DELIVERS, TAYE & WILLIAMS MAKE HISTORY
Podcast

The first-ever Grand Slam Track event in Kingston is in the books and twelve athletes are walking away $100,000 richer. That’s $1.2 million in prize money handed out across one weekend.

The weekend closed the way it began: with Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone doing Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone things — cruising to a 50.32 in the 400, winning her race group, and reminding the world why she’s the face of this sport. First signee. Final champion. Signature Sydney.

Grant Fisher snuck into Slam Champion status with a gritty 3rd in the 3k after winning the 5k on Friday — edging Hagos Gebrhiwet by a single point. Sasha Zhoya won the men’s short hurdles group by winning the 100 flat — proving that versatility, not just velocity is the new currency for the big money.

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden doubled up in the sprints. Emmanuel Wanyonyi did just enough to hold off Marco Arop in the standings. Ejgayehu Taye ran 14:54 to sweep her distance group. And Alison dos Santos? Leaned like his life depended on it to close a 400m thriller by two hundredths.

Oh — and Jamaica got its moment too. Danielle Williams, world champ turned home crowd hero, claimed her slam title in the short hurdles with a win in the flat 100. First Jamaican Slam Champion. First Challenger to knock out the Racers. Crowd went bananas.

Every race meant something. Every move on the track changed the leaderboard. And from the pacing to the prize money, it actually felt like a sport you could follow.

Next stop? Miami, May 2–4. New city. New matchups. Same $100K at the finish line.

Alison Dos Santos On Earning His Second Olympic Bronze Medal In The 400m Hurdles + Joining Grand Slam Track
    Podcast

We actually recorded this while we were in Paris but had to keep it under wraps for a bit. This was just a few days after Alison Dos Santos earned his second Olympic bronze medal in the men’s 400m hurdles. He went on to win the 2024 Diamond League title and finished the year with a personal best of 46.29, which puts him at No. 3 on the all-time list behind Karsten Warholm and Rai Benjamin.

We talk a bit about the state of the men’s 400m hurdles. His experience in Paris and his excitement around becoming the first South American athlete to sign with Grand Slam Track. He will be contesting the 400m and 400m hurdles four times per year at the four Slams in 2025 for the inaugural season of Michael Johnson’s professional track league.

You can read more about Dos Santos and all of the Grand Slam Track recent signings over at CITIUSMAG.com.
