“I'm still processing everything. It still very much feels like a dream. I keep telling everyone that every morning I’ve woken up since the race, I keep having to check my phone, check the date, and make sure I’ve already raced and that it’s not coming up. I was like, ‘Wait, that actually happened, right?’ I feel like for me it’s been a lot of processing, a lot of pinch me moments, but a lot of joy.”
Sister duo Juliette and Isabella Whittaker join us live in Eugene after their breakout performances at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. “Coach Joe Lee, he kept me on a level-mind: ‘Just go out there and run your race. You’re just as good, you’ve done so many things. Just keep focusing.’ That’s what I was doing. I was focusing on the race and what I could have done. When I came out of lane two, I was like, ‘You’ve only got one chance. This is the last final. This could be your last open 400 of the season.’ I gave it everything I had.”

“In the grand scheme of things, it’s probably what I needed to just be a little more fresh, more motivated and to appreciate health going into this build. "Life is full of NO, but as long as you still have YES in your heart that's all that matters."
Today I have the great privilege of speaking with the one and only Chari Hawkins. Chari has done extraordinary things both on and off the track and has inspired countless people to chase after their wildest dreams. If I was to recommend one episode of my podcast to someone, it honestly might be this one. Chari shares an unbelievable amount of wisdom in a succinct and engaging way.
In this episode, Chari and I discuss a plethora of subjects including why failing is crucially important, how to separate your identity from your sport, having fun in the sport, why it's important to share your journey as a whole, dealing with expectations from the outside world, and much more! We also talk about growing up as the youngest kid in the family and Chari answers what she would cook Gordan Ramsay for dinner.
Please like, subscribe, and share with your friends if you enjoyed today’s episode! You can also give us a five-star review on Spotify & Apple Podcasts and support the sponsors who support us (:
