Christian Coleman is an American sprinter who specializes in the 100 meters and 200 meters. He is known for his explosive speed and has been a dominant force in men's sprinting, notably winning the gold medal in the 100 meters at the 2019 World Championships. Coleman also set the world indoor record for the 60 meters in 2018, showcasing his prowess in short-distance events.

– Sha'Carri Richardson took down a STACKED field at the Prefontaine Classic and puts any doubts about her early season form to rest with a decisive 10.83 victory in the women’s 100m. Richardson looked smooth while Olympic champ Elaine Thompson-Herah struggled, finishing 9th in 11.30.

– Joe Kovacs puts the world on alert with the first 23-meter throw of the season, launching a 23.13m effort in the final round of the men's shot put competition to set a new world lead.

– Grant Holloway keeps his incredible 2024 going with a world-leading 13.03 victory in the 110m hurdles. USA puts 3 in front of Olympic champ Hansle Parchment with Daniel Roberts (13.13) and Freddie Crittenden (13.16) rounding out the top spots.

Chris Chavez survived his bachelor party for a track-free weekend as Anderson Emerole updates him on his highlights from the 2024 Penn Relays + takeaways from the Shanghai Diamond League.

PENN RELAYS

– 16-year-old Quincy Wilson split 44s on the high school boys' 4x400m relay twice and put his Bullis Academy (MD) team in contention against some of the top Jamaican squads.

– Harvard's women's team clocked the fastest collegiate DMR in history with a 10:37.55 to win the Championship of America and were anchored in 4:21 by Maia Ramsden.

– Villanova's men destroyed the NCAA 4 x mile record of 16:03.24 by Oregon's 2009 squad as they led two other schools under 16:00. The Wildcats won in 15:51.91 capped by a 3:54.32 anchor from Liam Murphy.

– Yared Nuguse opened up his outdoor season with a 3:51.06 mile victory and tried to get his teammate Olli Hoare under the Olympic standard but he finished in 3:51.28.

SHANGHAI DIAMOND LEAGUE

– South Africa's Akani Simbine beat Christian Coleman and Fred Kerley in 10.01.

– Great Britain's Daryll Neita won the women's 200m in 22.62 as Sha'Carri Richardson finished third in 23.11.

– Kenya's Beatrice Chepkoech won the women's steeplechase in 9:07.36. Emma Coburn dropped out with 1000m remaining due to a ankle tweak. Gabbi Jennings notched a 9:19.39 personal best for fifth place.

World Indoor Championships Day 1 Recap: Christian Coleman vs. Noah Lyles Round II Lives Up To The Hype, Ryan Crouser Completes His Gold Medal Collection

Christian Coleman On His Plan To Return To The Top Of The Sprints

"If you have to flip a switch, it's too late. I've been locked in. We've been training and going at it and we’re focused on the process. The biggest thing for me is staying healthy and staying patient. You can't do anything out of the ordinary. You can't do something that you haven't practiced or do something extra. It's just another year. This is what we do every single year. It’s the top of the year – there’s newfound energy, newfound opportunity. But it’s the same level of consistency, the same level of intensity. We just continue to do what we do."

60m world record holder Christian Coleman will return to the Armory in New York City on Feb. 11th to go for his third consecutive victory in the men’s 60m at the Millrose Games.

Coleman is coming off a 2023 season in which he matched the world’s fastest 100m time of the year with a 9.83s victory at the Xiamen Diamond League in China last August. He was the runner-up in the men’s 100m at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships and went on to place fifth at the World Championship final in Budapest. He closed out the season by winning the men’s 100m Diamond League crown at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.

You don’t hear Christian Coleman do too many longer interviews so it was a pleasure to chat with him as we reflect on 2023 and look toward 2024 – where you could make the case that he’s a gold medal favorite in the men’s 100m. He’s honest about the process of coming back from a whereabouts suspension that kept him out for 18 months and forced him to miss the Tokyo Olympics.

We get a bit technical on what makes for a great 60m sprinter and how that converts to outdoors and the 100m. I touched on why he’s not as vocal about records and fast times as some of his competitors and much more.

I think you’ll hear a side to one of the world’s fastest men that you haven’t heard before.

USATF OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY 2 RECAP: SHA'CARRI RICHARDSON WINS THE 100M AND SENDS A STATEMENT, CRAYVONT CHARLESTON ARRIVES

Chris Chavez, Kyle Merber, Katelyn Hutchison and Dana Giordano recap the second day of the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships LIVE from Eugene, Oregon.

Some of the highlights of the day include:

Sha'Carri Richardson won her first U.S. 100m title in 10.82 seconds, ahead of Brittany Brown (10.90) and Tamari Davis (10.99) who also qualified for the U.S. 100m team for the first time.
In the men's 100m race, relative unknown Cravont Charleston upset 2019 World champion Christian Coleman to become the U.S. champion with Noah Lyles taking the third spot.
Anna Hall won the heptathlon with 6,677 points and secured her spot on the world team
Harrison Williams achieved a personal best of 8,630 points to win the decathlon title.
Vashti Cunningham claimed her sixth consecutive high jump title.
Donald Scott emerged victorious in the triple jump.

We saw some big performances in Miramar and Baton Rouge from Sha’Carri Richardson (10.57 with a 4.1m/s wind reading) and Aleia Hobbs (10.87 with a legal 2.0m/s wind reading). 400m hurdles world championship silver medalist Rai Benjamin threw down a 44.21 for a 400m PR in California. Abby Steiner and Christian Coleman held off strong challenges from young stars to win the women's and men's 200m at the Miramar Invitational, respectfully.
