“I'm very optimistic. I’m going into the 800 ready to showcase my new speedsuit and I’m ready to show everyone what I can do as a pro. My goal is to PR in every event. I don’t want people to think now that I’m pro I’m not going to get better. I feel like I’ll continue to improve and I’m super excited.”
Eric Holt joins us live in Eugene to announce his pro contract with PUMA after racing at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. Eric shares about his path to finally turning pro, how having a pro contract + extra income will improve his career, how he’s handled all the recent media attention, and breaks down what his typical race strategy is. “I'm still processing everything. It still very much feels like a dream. I keep telling everyone that every morning I’ve woken up since the race, I keep having to check my phone, check the date, and make sure I’ve already raced and that it’s not coming up. I was like, ‘Wait, that actually happened, right?’ I feel like for me it’s been a lot of processing, a lot of pinch me moments, but a lot of joy.”
Sister duo Juliette and Isabella Whittaker join us live in Eugene after their breakout performances at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. Juliette qualified for her first Olympic team by placing third in the 800m and Isabella took 6th in the 400m final. The sisters share about how they were able to split their focus between the NCAA season and Olympic Trials, how they manage nerves before their races (and each other's races!) and lots more. “Coming in here, I was confident in my training and what we’ve done and I felt ready, but also I felt like maybe everyone was feeling that way – so it was important to show up, take care of business, not sleep on anybody, and make it through the rounds as safely as possible.”

If you think this will be a typical recap + preview show, then you don't know Des and Kara well enough!
Yes, you get event recaps from the NCAA Track and Field Championships, and you get race previews from 800m to 10000m for the Olympic Trials, including all of their reactions and sleeper picks.
But... you also get another Kara Goucher sliding-doors moment, info on a family member that Des can't keep up with on the run, hot takes on spiky super shoes, NIL deals, athletes turning pro, the unsponsored Eric Holt, the newly unsponsored Fred Kerley, plus an idea for the first piece of NAU merch that would no doubt sell out FAST (pun intended).
Dance your way over to your favorite podcast platform and give this one a listen. Then, go sign up for the next Nobody Asked Us LIVE in Eugene on June 29th. Thank you to Brooks Running for hosting!

We just wrapped up a jam-packed weekend with track and field taking place in Eugene with the NCAA Championships, Portland for the Portland Track Festival, Rome for the European Championships and New York City for the NYC Grand Prix.
NYC GRAND PRIX
Lots of action to recap including Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone giving the 400m American record a scare; Noah Lyles clocked a 19.77 into the wind, Eric Holt goes viral after taking 2022 world champion Jake Wightman to the line in the 1500m, Elaine Thompson Herah may be seriously injured after pulling up after the 100m. But the biggest story was 2022 World champion Fred Kerley and his sponsor Asics decided to part ways. Kerley came out onto the track wearing a competitor's product. Kerley did not end up racing after slipping in the blocks twice. He was not disqualified but elected not to race.
NCAA Championships
From McKenzie Long and Parker Valby to Shane Cohen and Parker Wolfe, we look at some of the collegiate stars who could be poised for a breakthrough to make the U.S. Olympic team in just a few weeks.

We bring track & field into the boxing ring with Eric Holt in a special segment called Holtamania Smackdown. Eric has a history with boxing and helps us determine who would win in a fight between some big names, such as Centro vs Engels? Kipchoge vs Cheruiyot? Jager vs Ahmed? and many more!
Eric Holt's story is certainly inspirational. Eric started 2021 as an unknown with a PR of 3:44 for 1500m. As the season unfolded, Eric ran faster each race and was taking down top tier competition with his triple crown of wins at the Citius Mag / Trials of Miles meets in Austin, Kansas City, and New York. He ultimately ran 3:36 for 1500m to qualify for the US Olympic Trials.
No runner out there is hungrier than Eric. He's got some big goals going forward as he continues to train with the Empire Elite Track Club.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity I have to make the U.S. Trials. It’s always easy to talk about things you don’t have but I’m so thankful for this club. For the first time in my career, I feel like I have opportunities to run times that I dreamed of when I was 13 or 14 years old and first started the sport. If you told my sophomore year high school or 15-year-old self that I’d have an opportunity to run 3:55 or 3:54 (for the mile), I probably wouldn’t believe you. But now I 100% believe it."
Eric Holt is a member of Empire Elite, a new pro group in New York coached by John Trautmann and Tommy Nohilly who used to be part of Frank Gagliano’s coaching staff with the New Jersey-New York Track Club. In this episode, you’ll get to know Eric a bit better after he recently won the Trials of Miles Kansas City Qualifier men’s 1,500. He’s one of the guys on the cusp of break 3:40 and trying to get into the U.S. Olympic Trials. Eric went to Binghamton, where he was a six-time America East track and field champion. Eric took a break from the sport after graduating but is now fully back in. He’s run 3:40.77 for the 1,500m and 3:58.88 for the mile. This one goes out to all of the people who know there’s more to give after college and are still willing to give it your best shot, because that’s what he’s doing.
