We’re joined by soon to be 4x Olympian, 2x World Championship finalist and Australian record holder, Genevieve Gregson, as she prepares for the marathon at the Paris Olympic Games.
Gen’s last Olympics, Tokyo, was a heartbreak. At the last water jump of the 3000m Steeplechase final, Gen’s achilles fully ruptured. As she was taken off the track in a wheelchair, it was looking like her career was over. But in hindsight, it was one of the best things to happen to Gen's career.
In the midst of two Achilles surgery and having her son, Gen decided to make a comeback - in the marathon. Fast forward to December 2023, Gen’s son is just 18 months old but she is crossing the finish line at Valencia marathon in an incredible time of 2:23:08, claiming a spot on the Australian marathon team for the Paris Olympics.
Here’s how she did it.

Genevieve Gregson’s 32nd birthday should have been something to celebrate. The three-time Olympic and two-time World Championship finalist was competing in the 300m steeplechase at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the event for which she held the Australian record. But coming off the final water jump, she fell when her right Achilles tendon snapped and she was unable to finish the race. She and Tina talk about her journey to that point and her plans for the future, including the most exciting one - the birth of her first child, due in just a few weeks.

Jez & Damo speak to Olympian & Aussie steeplechase star Genevieve Gregson, covering her recent heartbreaking injury in Japan, her recovery, how her upbringing has helped, why steeplechase is nerve wracking, scary and running hierarchy wise sits above ‘flat’ track runners, sharing a stage with Kylie in Glasgow, her new coaching business with husband Ryan and finally what’s the number one (or two ;-)) thing that she would give up an Olympic medal for?
Today we're joined by Team project run head coach Lloyd Kempson. A full time coach who also competes at a high domestic level. Despite his elite level friendships with the likes of Ryan Gregson and Genevieve Gregson, he still managed to find it within himself to come on the podcast. We speak about the sport, his coaching methodology and lots of other things within and outside of the sport.
