Ethan Strand won the men's 1500m at the Silesia Diamond League in 3:30.77 — his first career Diamond League victory, in a race billed as Cole Hocker versus Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Neither of them won it. Phanuel Koech took second in 3:31.14. Hocker was third in 3:31.16. Ingebrigtsen finished fourth in 3:31.19. Strand sat 11th at 800m. He was still deep in the pack with a lap to go. Then he unleashed a 1:50.4 last 800, a 54.3 last lap, and a 26.4 last 200 that closed 13.2-13.2. He was gone by the line. The 23-year-old has now beaten Hocker in three straight 1500m and mile finals — the 2025 USA Championships (which he inherited as champion after Jonah Koech was stripped for doping), the 2026 Pre Classic Bowerman Mile, and now Silesia. In this video, we work through what actually happened in Silesia. The tactical decision to run in lane two — expensive but with room — while Hocker was doing the familiar thing of leading and then rallying from the rail. The moment with a lap to go when Strand saw Jakob move and knew it was his time to go. And what the closing numbers actually tell us about where his fitness sits heading into the World Ultimate Championships in September. Listen to the full episode on The CITIUS MAG Podcast feed. Glad to put this video out at the request of my Patreon supporters. My pal Dax Hock asked if I could pace him in his first attempt at a 200 mile event, the Bigfoot 200 in 2019. I had run the same race the first year it was offered in 2015 and was happy to go back and revisit the course - especially knowing some of the initial problems would be resolved and the course more clearly marked. Dax put in a great effort and continued onto the Triple Crown completing the Tahoe and Moab races, too. He finished second to the Devastator, Michael McKnight, a fantastic result.
