Juliette Whittaker and Isabella Whittaker On Making The Olympic Team Together As Sisters | CITIUS MAG LIVE FROM EUGENE!
Podcast

“I'm still processing everything. It still very much feels like a dream. I keep telling everyone that every morning I’ve woken up since the race, I keep having to check my phone, check the date, and make sure I’ve already raced and that it’s not coming up. I was like, ‘Wait, that actually happened, right?’ I feel like for me it’s been a lot of processing, a lot of pinch me moments, but a lot of joy.”

Sister duo Juliette and Isabella Whittaker join us live in Eugene after their breakout performances at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. Juliette qualified for her first Olympic team by placing third in the 800m and Isabella took 6th in the 400m final. The sisters share about how they were able to split their focus between the NCAA season and Olympic Trials, how they manage nerves before their races (and each other's races!) and lots more. Today's episode is one I've been wanting to make happen for over a year now!

I have the extreme privilege of speaking with Juliette Whittaker.

Juliette is an exceptional athlete who competes for Stanford University. Throughout her collegiate career at Stanford so far, she has garnered numerous accolades, including winning the NCAA indoor distance medley relay championship in 2023 and being named a four-time All-American. She's claimed titles like the Pac-12 800 champion and Pac-12 Women's Track and Field Freshman of the Year in 2023. Juliette's impressive athletic record extends to her time as a U.S. under-20 800 champion and a national high school outdoor record-holder for the 800 meters. Her exceptional personal bests, including a 1:59.04 in the 800 and a 4:12.49 in the 1,500 meters, have solidified her as a top performer. Notably, she's earned the Stanford Athletics Board Conference Athlete of the Year award and has excelled academically, making the USTFCCCA All-Academic list and being named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll. Juliette's accomplishments, from setting records to winning championships, speak to her dedication and remarkable talent in the world of track and field.

Juliette was also On Running's first NCAA NIL deal.

In today's conversation, Juliette shares her story, her dominance in high-school, reflections from her Freshman year at Stanford, and much more! I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did having it.

Juliette Whittaker After Becoming The Second High School Girl To Break Two Minutes for The 800m, 1:59.80 For The Win At Trials of Miles' Track Night NYC
Podcast

"There's a fine line between knowing I was ready and confident to run a sub-two and then actually doing it. To see the 1:59 on the board really took so long to sink in because it was such an amazing feeling and something I had been wanting for so long. The fans and the atmosphere were an awesome feeling. I definitely would not have wanted to do this at any other meet."

Juliette Whittaker rejoins the show. She is a senior at Mount De Sales Academy in Maryland and is committed to Stanford for next year. If you haven't listened to her episode from March, it takes a deeper dive into her story and rise as one of the top 800m high school stars in the country. We caught up this week to chat about her 1:59.80 to win the women's 800 meters at Trials of Miles' Track Night NYC. Only Mary Cain’s record of 1:59.51 from 2013 is faster in high school history.

If you haven't seen the race yet, it's available on the CITIUS MAG YouTube channel along with a full replay of the meet. Juliette takes us through that day, why this goal has been a long time coming, the rest of her race schedule for the summer and what her top high school career moments have been.

On The Rise: Juliette Whittaker (U.S. HS Girls 800m No. 3 All-Time)
Podcast

"I would rather race them and get pulled along to a fast time and possibly get second or third instead of going and running on my own and maybe having to do a bit of extra work to get a faster time or maybe not even get that fast of a time. My mind is set on not really caring so much about winning and losing but getting a fast time."

In this episode, we speak with Juliette Whittaker. She is a senior at Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville, Maryland. Juliette is a super talented athlete who isn’t one to back away from competition and throw herself in the mix for some fast times in the process. Last year, she ran an 800m personal best of 2:01.15 in Westchester, Pennsylvania and then reached the semifinal of the U.S. Olympic Trials at 17 years old. This indoor season, she ran the high school indoor 1000m record with a 2:39.41 and clocked the third-fastest high school indoor 800m time in 2:01.69. At New Balance Nationals, she led the mile wire-to-wire to run a personal best of 4:37.23, which is the fourth-fastest by a high school girl in U.S. history. She is committed to Stanford next year and as you’ll hear in this episode, her sense of humor will quickly make her an athlete whose career you’ll want to follow.
