Kim currently lives and trains in Flagstaff, AZ with her coach/husband Drew Wartenburg. Kim is currently in a transition period coming from the track to the roads. She has represented the United States eight times, including at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games in the 5,000m. Having never qualified for the NCAA Championships in college, Kim found herself qualifying for the 2012 Olympics just 3 years after graduating and in one of the most dramatic finishes you'll ever see. Since then, Kim has continually succeeded in her career winning two national titles and a third place finish at the 2019 Pan-American Games.
