Klaudia Kazimierska

“The best athlete has short-term memory. After good races you push it away, and after bad races you just forget and move on.” My guest for today’s episode is Klaudia Kazimierska — the World Ultimate champion at 1500 meters and one of the biggest breakthrough stories in track and field this year. She is 25 years old, a Nike pro, and trains under coach Jerry Schumacher in Eugene, Oregon. Her past month is the type of season most athletes would dream of. Here is how September went for Klaudia. She broke the Polish national record early in the month at the Silesia Diamond League. Then she went to Brussels and won the Diamond League Final in 3:54.05 — a world lead, a meet record, and a Polish record again all in the same race. Then she came back a week later and won the World Ultimate Championship 1500 meter final. Then she capped her season in London with another victory over Hunter Bell. In those last three races, she earned $275,000 in prize money. In this one, we go back to Poland, where she started running once a week at eleven years old because her dad knew the coach, ran 4:07 at nineteen and thought the Tokyo Olympics were right around the corner, then went backward. In 2021, frustrated and looking for something new, she started the paperwork to transfer to Oregon — a process complicated enough that it took a year. She’s made the Olympic and World Championship finals in the last two years, but 2026 was really the breakthrough. Brussels was the first time she put herself in a position to win. Then Budapest was the second. We discuss: – The season that still hasn’t fully settled in highlighted by three wins in three weeks — Diamond League final (Brussels), World Ultimate Championships (Budapest), Athlos London. Total prize earnings: approximately $275,000. – Growing up in Poland – Representing Poland at sixteen — and who else was there – The road to the University of Oregon – The language barrier and the fear of not being herself – The training difference — Poland vs. Eugene – The four-year plateau at 4:07 – The Paris Olympic final — and why she cried on a day she ran a PB – What nobody knew about the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships – The torn hip labrum that almost ended 2025 before it started – The Tokyo World Championships and the first real glimpse of her kick – Pre-Classic as the tactical lesson that made Brussels possible – Brussels Diamond League Final— the shadow on the home straight: 3:54, the world lead. – Budapest — the gear shift, the last 50 meters, and knowing everyone else was hurting too. – London — finding the inside rail + What’s next Take this interview on-the-go in podcast form ⬇️ APPLE PODCASTS: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/how-klaudia-kazimierska-became-the-breakout-1500m/id1204506559?i=1000791346562 SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/episode/26eNiS9Eq2Ey1Ovz2qeDTe?si=uOF1MKmkQcaOwVJ0ZK1bpg FOLLOW CITIUS MAG ▶ Subscribe to the podcast: https://apple.co/3Byp72I ▶ On Twitter: http://twitter.com/CitiusMag ▶ On Instagram: http://instagram.com/citiusmag ▶ On Facebook: http://facebook.com/citiusmag ▶ Support us on Patreon: https://patreon.com/citiusmag ▶ On our website: http://citiusmag.com For other inquiries, contact us: chris@citiusmag.com Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, and subscribe! Tsige Duguma won the women's 1500m at the Silesia Diamond League in a world-leading 3:55.06, going from fifth to first over the final 100 meters in the kind of closing kick that has become the calling card of the world's best 800m runners. Jess Hull took second in 3:55.20 after leading with 100 meters to go. Poland's Klaudia Kazimierska set a national record of 3:55.59 in front of a home crowd. The race had three lead changes over the final lap. Dorcus Ewoi took over with 200 to go. Hull moved to the front with 100 remaining. Duguma passed everybody in the final straight. Kazimierska had front-run the entire race and was rewarded with a Polish national record. Seven of the nine finishers ran a world lead, seasonal best, or national record. It was arguably the deepest women's 1500m of the year. Listen to the full episode on The CITIUS MAG Podcast feed.
