Back on the podcast today is Ky Robinson!
Ky was undoubtedly one of the greatest NCAA runners of our generation. Competeing for the storied Stanford University, Ky was a 2xNCAA Champion (5k/10k), leading to him being named the Men's Outdoor Track National Athlete of the Year in 2023
Ky is Stanford school-record holder in the mile, steeplechase, 5,000, and indoor 3,000.
Ky was also a 13-time All-American, an accomplishment that I have only seen once or twice in the 450 episodes of this podcast.
Ky has run 3:52 (Mile), 7:36 (3k), 13:06 (5k), and 27:44 (10k).
Ky signed with On and the OAC out of college and will be going into his first full rookie year with them in 2025.
In today's conversation, Ky takes me through his final year at Stanford, his reflections on the legacy he left there, his decision to turn pro with On, his ambitions for the future, and much more!
I always thoroughly enjoy my conversations with Ky and this one is packed full of stories, wisdom, and actionable takeaways. Don't miss it!

NEW YORK!! We made it. The boys head to NYC for this episode to do our very first live show with a studio audience. We had a great time with our fans in New York celebrating Hellen Obiri and On's marvelous new LightSpray technology. We catch up with the boys on how their NYC experience is going, talk about Olli's role in developing the new shoe technology, and play some games with the OAC rookies (Robert Farken, Ky Robinson, Dylan Jacobs) and lovely audience members. We finish off with some great Q&A about Flagstaff, training in 2025, and Penn Relays vs. Millrose Games. We have so much fun and hope you will too.
Note: Tune into the YouTube video to check out some of our magical live moments and visuals. Also apologies for the audio recording quality! Our actual recording comes through towards the end (after a technical mishap).
Special thank you to Artiken for hooking us up with bracelets: https://www.artiken.com and On for providing us with a space and audience to do our show!

Today we welcome our new teammate and permanent podcast host, Ky Robinson. After an illustrious run at Stanford as an On NIL athlete, Ky joined up with OAC this summer to begin his professional career. We go over everything from how he got started to his favorite Young Bother (hint: it's not Nico) to why he picked OAC over Bowerman TC. We also cover a bit of triathlon news as Morgan Pearson runs a very fast half marathon in Valencia and also the SEC cross country roster limits in the NCAA.
We will be in NYC for the marathon this year!

A Wide Open Race At The Top
"Nico Young feels due for an individual title on the grass. From his fourth place finish as a freshman, to falling just short over the final stretch last year, Young has never had a bad performance at NCAAs – his lowest career finish is 11th. A breakthrough in his senior year would be reminiscent of Adam Goucher’s legendary 1998 win, some great company for Young to join.
Young’s only two losses this season have come to arguably his biggest rivals heading into this weekend. Just last week he was edged by New Mexico’s Habtom Samuel at the Mountain Regional. Samuel is a newcomer to the NCAA scene this fall but is a two-time World U20 Medalist, placed 17th at the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships – the senior race! – for his native Eritrea, and boasts a 27:20.08 10,000m PB. He’s also won three of the four races he has run this season as a Lobo.
At the biggest regular-season meet of the year, the Nuttycombe Invitational, they finished in the two spots behind Harvard’s Graham Blanks. While Blanks (6th at NCAAs in 2022) was considered a surprise champ on the day, winning is all he has done this year. Blanks has started four races this season and crossed the finish first in each and every time. The big caveat to Blanks’s win at Wisco was that it came in incredibly muddy and rainy conditions that will look nothing like the weather in Charlottesville on Saturday. It is worth wondering if the fair weather in the forecast favors one of the contenders with quicker track PBs more.
Another big regular-season winner was Nico Young’s teammate Drew Bosley, who started the year strong with wins at NAU’s home opener and the Virginia Invitational, but didn’t run the Lumberjack’s conference meet and was the third finisher on his own team in their regional race. There is certainly concern there but Bosley should not be counted out as you only have to look to a year ago where he stayed with Young until the closing stages of the race.
Lastly, it would be impossible to move on without mentioning last year’s 5000m/10,000m champion on the track, Stanford’s Ky Robinson. Although Robinson (10th last year at NCAAs) doesn’t have a signature win over a national field on the grass this year, the 2022 Nuttycombe champion has put together a solid campaign. The Cardinal crew hasn’t made much noise in the team conversation this year, but they’ll be looking to cap the season with back-to-back individual champions.

Fresh off of making history, Ky Robinson returns to the podcast!
Ky made history in Austin Texas this past June by winning the dirty double in dominate fashion. With a 54 second last lap, Ky won the 10k with teammate and former podcast guest Charles Hicks right behind in second. Just two days later, Ky ran it back (no pun-intended) and won the 5k with a 55 second last lap cementing himself in history as one of the few to win the double.
For those who aren't familiar with Ky, he is an accomplished athlete with numerous achievements in track and field. He is a multi-time All-American and has competed in the World Championships for both track and field and cross country. Ky holds multiple records at Stanford, including the steeplechase and indoor 3,000 and 5,000. He is also the record-holder for the under-20 steeplechase in Australia and Oceania. Ky has been part of championship-winning teams, such as the West Region XC team and Pac-12 XC team. In addition to his athletic success, Ky has received academic honors and awards for his outstanding performance both on and off the track.
Today's conversation is one of my favorite from the past few months. Ky breaks down his season in full and his incredible performances at NCAAs. We dive into his training, mindset, and more. We also discuss if he'll return to Palo Alto this Fall, his ambitions the rest of the season, and wearing long socks in Austin heat.

"Even in the first week, it's just extremely apparent that this is the perfect environment for me. We've already done workouts that would pretty much have been impossible for me before, but I think it's just having so many World Championship Olympic quality guys in a train that I can just hop into and be a part of that just really elevates every athlete. A lot of people think you become the average of the people you spend the most time around–and these guys are just the absolute best in the world"
Charles Hicks who is coming off a runner-up finish in the 10,000 meters at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where he finished right behind his Stanford teammate Ky Robinson.
Last November, he made history as the first runner from Stanford University to win an NCAA individual cross country title. In his four years at Stanford, he has earned multiple All-American and Pac-12 honors and titles. In addition to all of the collegiate success, he is a two-time European under-23 cross country champion while representing Great Britain.
Now, he’s ready to open a new chapter. He has decided to forego the remainder of his NCAA eligibility to turn pro, sign with Nike and join the Bowerman Track Club under coach Jerry Schumacher.
In the latest episode of The CITIUS MAG Podcast, we discuss everything about the decision, how long he’s wanted to be a pro runner, what his hopes are for representing Team GB at global championships and the future of his YouTube channel.

What does it take to be a good coach? What does it take to lead others to success? We explore these questions and many more with the one and only Coach Ricardo Santos, coach of the Stanford cross country and track teams.
Coach Ricardo Santos is an accomplished distance coach at Stanford University, where he has been the primary men's distance coach since August 2019. He has had remarkable success, including coaching Charles Hicks to become the first Stanford runner, male or female, to win an NCAA individual cross-country title in 2022. Under Santos' guidance, the Stanford men's cross-country teams have achieved 13 top-10 finishes in NCAA championships and won numerous regional and conference championships. Santos has been recognized with multiple Coach of the Year honors, including USTFCCCA West Region and Pac-12 Men's Coach of the Year in 2022. His coaching prowess extends to track events as well, with his athletes setting records and earning international recognition. Santos brings a wealth of experience to his coaching role, having previously coached at the Boston Athletic Association and Iona College.
This conversation encapsulates the subjects of what it takes to coach a successful team. We discuss culture, instilling patience, a process mindset, and what makes a good leader. We also go through his recent success with athletes Charles Hicks (who won the 2022 NCAA XC title) and Ky Robinson (who won the 2023 5k/10k Outdoor titles).
It was an absolute pleasure having a conversation with Coach Santos and dissecting his extremely successful career so far! I know you'll find value from this conversation with one of the best coaches in the world.
There's a saying, "A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." This perfectly describes Coach Santos, and I know you will learn from him in this conversation.

Today on the podcast, I have the great privilege of speaking with the one and only, Ky Robinson. Ky competes for Stanford University, where he has slowly cemented himself as one of the top runners in the NCAA. Not only is Ky a force to be reckoned with in the NCAA, but Ky is also one of the top runners in his home country, Australia, having represented them at global championships, including the Eugune World Championships last summer, where he competed in the 5k. Just in the span of the short few months of indoor track, Ky has run 13:11 in the 5k, and 3:55 in the mile. Ky was also recently selected to represent his country Australia at the 2023 World XC Championships that will take place in Bathurst, Australia, this February 18.
This discussion with Ky was an absolute blast. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and am confident you will, too. Ky dives deep into running for Stanford University and all aspects of that experience, from the workouts to the culture to specific races. We also go into his upbringing in the sport in Australia and his decision to come over to the US for college. We also go into this upcoming year and his outlook on it, including the 2023 World XC Championships coming up next weekend.
Lastly, Ky answers some listener questions, and we start to discuss the possibilities of a Spikeball dynasty in Palo Alto, this Fall. Needless to say, tune in!
