“This wasn’t a dream, I didn't study journalism, I didn't have any aspirations of being on television, but I love the fact that this is how I get to stay involved with the sport and be a steward and some sort of conduit for, at least on the field side, the joy and awe of the spectacle of what these men and women are able to do.”
Trey Hardee, Olympic silver medalist and 2x world champion in the decathlon, joins the show to chat about his transition into track and field broadcasting, his ideas on how to improve + grow the sport, his love for field events, and lots more. “I think silent killer is perfect for me. I put so much energy and effort into this. I’ve really been pursuing greatness, so when I get out there and don't do what I want to do, it’s clear. You can see it on my face that I'm not happy. I try to be grateful and take everything in, but at the same time I always want more and I know what I'm capable of.”

“Track is such a different world. Marathoners are so hyper-focused. If I go to the Boston Marathon, I really can’t go many places, because a lot of people will recognize me. But something like track, I get to be like any other track fan out here. I’ll get noticed every once in a while, but for the most part, people are here to watch Sha’Carri.”

“When I've had great performances and won medals and won Olympic Trials, I'm very satisfied in that moment, but I'm always just thinking that I can get better and do better. I'm a bit of a hardass where I want to keep working… I get so much confidence and joy and pride from my work that it’s a no-brainer.”

Molly Seidel is a professional runner for PUMA living in Flagstaff, AZ. She famously qualified for Team USA in her first marathon and then earned a Bronze Medal in the Tokyo Olympics. Last week, Molly made news when Canadian Running reported that she was on the start list for the Canyons by UTMB 50k coming up later in April. On Saturday, Feb. 3, Orlando will host the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. The top three men and women who have met the qualifying standards and criteria will be named the U.S. Olympic team for the Paris Games.
This race features the first head-to-head matchup over the marathon distance by American record holder Emily Sisson and former record holder Keira D'Amato. Five of the six members of the 2020 Olympic team are back as Galen Rupp, Molly Seidel, Aliphine Tuliamuk, Jake Riley and Abdi Abdirahman return to try and make another team. Conner Mantz and Scott Fauble remain two of the most consistent American men of the last Olympic cycle. CITIUS MAG's team (Chris Chavez, Kyle Merber, and Eric Jenkins) will preview all the top storylines and athletes to watch. This week in the Lap Count Newsletter, Kyle Merber spoke with Natosha Rogers.
In 2012, as a junior at Texas A&M, Natosha Rogers followed up her NCAA 10,000m victory with a second place finish at the US Olympic Trials despite a mid-race fall. Although her time of 31:59 did not qualify her for the Games, running fans took immediate appreciation of her talent. A decade later she finally qualified to represent the United States at a global track championship in the 10,000m in Eugene.
Then in 2023, representing her current sponsor and club, Puma Elite, she did it again, this time doubling in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the World Championships in Budapest.
Rogers qualified for the Olympic Trials via the half marathon and holds a personal best of 1:09:36 – it will be her debut at the distance. Given Molly Seidel’s success in her debut at the 2020 Trials, we wanted to hear how Natosha’s foray into the new distance was going.

"Looking back, I should’ve taken more time to process what had happened after the Olympics. It was such an enormously positive experience that I think it made me forget how difficult it was going into it...I do think you have to be able to take that time to figure out why you’re in this sport and why you enjoy doing this and how you’re going to take everything forward from there.
Please welcome back Molly Seidel to the CITIUS MAG Podcast. We just recorded this at The Running Event in Austin, Texas where we partnered with PUMA Running to host a group run, tape a live podcast and follow around the PUMA Elite women before they won Cross Champs. Stay tuned for more content coming from this trip. I really enjoyed this conversation with Molly as we caught up on a lot from the past year including how she handled some lows in her running due to injury and mental health struggles. She’s doing much better and I’m excited for what’s to come with her in 2023.

Dean and Paula discuss why having a coach is important for reaching your big goals from personal experiences as athletes and coaches. Also in this episode, they discuss:
RyR is a team of runners and triathletes who receive comprehensive and customized coaching. The team name has dual meanings. The first is based in Hebrews 12:1 in which Christians are instructed to run the race set before us. In this context, RyR stands for Run your Race, with an emphasis on meeting you (the athlete) where you are and coming alongside you to help you reach your goals. The verse emphasizes patience, endurance, and perseverance. These qualities are essential for success as both athletes and coaches.
The second meaning is based on the enduring friendship and marriage between the founding coaches, Dean and Paula Roberts. In this context, RyR stands for Roberts and Roberts. While our primary mission is to help athletes set and reach fitness and performance goals, we understand that this must occur within the context of each athlete's daily life. We strive to form an individual relationship with each athlete and make sure weekly training fits seamlessly into family life and work schedules.
