Jacob Kiplimo Just Broke the Half Marathon World Record — Again

    CITIUS MAG

Jacob Kiplimo returned to Lisbon on Sunday and reclaimed his place in the record books, running 57:20 at the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon to set a new half marathon world record. Kiplimo's 57:20 takes 10 seconds off Yomif Kejelcha's official world record of 57:30, set in Valencia in 2024. Kiplimo himself had held the previous record at 57:31, also set in Lisbon, in 2021. With no pacemakers, Kiplimo ran the first 10km in 27:00 alongside Kenyan duo Nicholas Kipkorir and Gilbert Kiprotich. At 15km, sensing the pace had dipped, Kiplimo surged — covering the next 5km in 13:31 and never looking back. Kipkorir finished second in 58:08, with Kiprotich third in 58:59. Kiplimo had actually run 56:42 in Barcelona last year, which is a jaw-dropping time that would have shattered the record by over a minute but it could not be ratified because the race conditions didn't fully comply with World Athletics rules. Sunday's mark is official.
