This Week In Track and Field: World Leading Times in Lievin; U.S. Indoor Championship Preview + World Cross Country Championships Preview

    February 16, 2023

On this weekโ€™s show, we had some fast times thrown down in Lievin, France where we saw several world-leading performances and a world record. Weโ€™re going to spend much of our time previewing the USATF Indoor Championships and the World Cross Country Championships this weekend.

Lievin World Indoor Tour: Lamecha Girma broke the indoor 3000m record with a 7:23.81; Meet records fell at the hands of Karsten Warholm, Keely Hodgkinson and Femke Bol. Jakob Ingebrigtsen is paying attention to the American stars now but says, 'I'm still the best.'

USATF Indoor Championships: Many of the top stars are absent from this meet since there is no World Indoor Championships this year. Noah Lyles is still the premier star showing up for the men's 60m. Major props to the likes of Aleia Hobbs, Anna Hall, Whittni Morgan, Cole Hocker, Clayton Murphy, Bryce Hoppel and others for contesting the meet.

World Cross Country Championships: The race will be held in Mount Panorama Circuit in Australia. If you want to watch, tune in on Friday, Feb. 17, at 11:30 p.m. ET on Peacock. Itโ€™s a 2K loop. People will be running through a vineyard at times. Possibly some kangaroo sightings. Very hot conditions. Should be spicy with Joshua Cheptegei, Selemon Barega, Letesenbet Gidey and Francine Niyonsaba among the stars competing.

TORCH TALK DAY 2: GIVE IT UP FOR GRANT FISHER IN THE 10K; SYDNEY MCLAUGHLIN ISN'T MESSING AROUND; CLAYTON MURPHY HAS OUR ATTENTION; A MID-OLYMPICS DOPING CASE

    July 31, 2021

The first track and field medals of the Tokyo Olympics were decided with Selemon Barega winning gold in the men's 10,000 meters to put Ethiopia back on top of the event for the first time since Kenenisa Bekele and Haile Gebrselassie's reign. Uganda took silver and bronze with Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo deploying team tactics but not quite following the plan. Grant Fisher may be a 10K guy, as much as he may not like that, after taking fifth to earn the top American honors. Plus, what was the gutsiest performance of the day that came out of this race? Find out.

    Also discussed in this episode:

โ€“ The women's 400m hurdles is set for a major clash of the titans again with smooth showings by Sydney McLaughlin, Dalilah Muhammad and Femke Bol

โ€“ Why the women's 5,000 meter final may end up being historically fast with Kenya and Ethiopia fielding their stars vs. Sifan Hassan

โ€“ How hard will it be for the U.S. to come away with more than one medal in the 100m hurdles after a sweep in 2016?

โ€“ No more sleeping on Clayton Murphy as the U.S. puts three men in the final but what's this mean for Nijel Amos?

โ€“ Big Throws love to Raven Saunders and Jessica Ramsey

โ€“ Examining the Blessing Okagbare positive test for HGH and the subsequent suspension mid-Games

โ€“ Kudos for Matt Ludwig making it to Tokyo to replace Sam Kendricks
