Boston Marathon 2025

An historic day on Boylston for the 2025 Boston Marathon. Sharon Lokedi finally bested her long-time rival and two-time defending champion Hellen Obiri. @shazrine not only upgraded her 2nd place finish from last year to take home the golden wreath, she also took home a shiny new course record. I guess an historic effort is what it takes to beat @hellenobiri . @jesstonn came in with the goal of being Top American and got the job done. @anniefrisb3 had the kind of day we’ve all been hoping/expecting her to have for so long now, coming in 2nd American and 8th overall (her second Top 10 finish at a world marathon major). @emmajanelbates came in third American. Olympian @dakotahlindwurm was fourth American. And @des_linden came in 5th American in an emotional finish for her last professional marathon. . On the men’s side, 2024 Chicago Marathon champion John Korir took the win, quieting any doubts that the winner on the flat and fast Chicago course might not be able to handle hills. People must have forgotten that @korir564 was a two-time winner of the very hilly LA Marathon. The North American men also had a solid showing, with @connermantz just narrowly missing the podium by getting out kicked by CyBrian Kotut @kimurgorkotut @rory_linkletter came in as top Canadian and 6th overall. Fellow BYU alum @_clayton_young_ came in 7th for 2nd American.

2025 BOSTON MARATHON PREVIEW | LIVE FROM PUMA'S HIGH POINT
Podcast

The 2025 Boston Marathon promises an exciting blend of redemption stories, debut intrigue, and head-to-head rivalries across both elite fields. On the men’s side, defending champion Sisay Lemma returns after last year’s audacious front-running victory, facing off against 2024 Chicago champ John Korir, two-time Boston winner Evans Chebet, rising Kenyan Daniel Mateiko, and U.S. hopeful Conner Mantz. Other contenders include Lesotho’s Tebello Ramakongoana and Americans Clayton Young and CJ Albertson, each hoping to outlast the pack or capitalize on race-day chaos.

In the women’s race, Hellen Obiri is chasing a rare three-peat in Boston, entering as the clear favorite despite a strong field. She’ll be challenged by past podium finishers Amane Beriso and Sharon Lokedi, 2:16 marathoner Yalemzerf Yehualaw, and rising marathon star Irene Cheptai. The American field is led by Keira D’Amato in her Boston debut, Emma Bates returning to form, and Dakota Popehn riding Olympic momentum. Young talents like Gabi Rooker, Jessica McClain, and Jackie Gaughan round out a promising domestic squad, with veterans Des Linden and Sara Vaughn adding experience to the mix.

Cooler temperatures, slight winds, and the Newton Hills promise another unpredictable Patriot’s Day. Tactics, toughness, and timing will determine who claims the tape on Boylston.

Sharon Lokedi On What She Learned From The Boston Marathon Race vs. Hellen Obiri Before 2025 Rematch
Video

Sharon Lokedi shares her takeaways from finishing second at the Boston Marathon in 2024 and her thoughts heading into this year's Boston Marathon. Sharon Lokedi | 2022 NYC Champ, 2024 Boston runner-up | 2:22:45 Personal Best (Boston, 2024) "Lokedi would surely love to flip the script on Obiri after finishing behind her in three straight marathons in 2024, including a runner-up finish in Boston one year ago. The 31-year-old is cut from a very similar mold as her fellow Kenyan in many ways: a tough game-day performer who thrives in championship settings and whose personal best doesn’t reflect her talent or resume. And she sent a clear message to the competition that she’s here to win it with a victory at the NYC Half in March, beating U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials champ Fiona O’Keeffe by 42 seconds. Often, it feels like Lokedi flies under the radar despite her incredible run of road racing over the last few years, and that might be the best asset in her disposal come Monday. Surely, Obiri or anyone else would be silly to discount a WMM champion’s chances, but if Lokedi can fly under the radar in the lead pack as long as possible, she’s as well-equipped as anyone to battle for the win over the final few miles, and one of these days, she’s bound to (re-)flip the script on her rival." The final World Marathon Major of 2024 is almost here! Sharon Lokedi Back To Take Back New York City Marathon Title From Hellen Obiri
Video

Sharon Lokedi Back To Take Back New York City Marathon Title From Hellen Obiri From our race preview: "Sharon Lokedi has been churning out strong marathon results since she first tackled the distance, with a podium finish in each of her first three marathon majors, most notably including her explosion onto the scene with victory in NYC in 2022. She backed that up with an impressive fourth place at the Olympics in perhaps the most stacked field in history, and was not far behind Hellen Obiri in the kick for that bronze medal, which gives her hope that if it comes down to a kick again, the result is no longer a foregone conclusion."
