Show Notes
Our editors Alex, Katelyn and Michael share their picks for the most intriguing athletes, exciting races and hot storylines to keep tabs on going into the first week of the Olympics next week. Can Sifan Hassan pull off running three track events AND a marathon? Will Noah Lyles actually break one of Usain Bolt's world records? And what's more exciting: the nasty showdown in the men's 1,500m, or the suddenly wide open field in both the women's and men's marathons?

Marathon Handbook was founded in 2016, with the mission from day one of helping you to run far, set goals and meet them. We provide free and super popular coach-vetted training plans for just about every distance and ability level, from your first 5K to a sub-3 hour marathon, to a 100-miler training plan. We've got you covered. We also follow the latest news and storylines in the running world, and review all the best shoes, running watches and gear on our site and our Youtube channel.
At our heart, we are runners and athletes ourselves – every person on our team is a running coach, distance runner, or certified health and fitness trainer.
We've decided to bring back This Week In Track and Field. CITIUS MAG's newest contributor, Anderson Emerole (who heads The Final Leg YouTube channel) will co-host every week as we riff on the biggest news stories and results in track and field.
In this week's show (since it was a slower week of results and news):
– We introduce Anderson to our audience a bit more formally
– Anderson shares a bit about his trip to Kingston, Jamaica for The ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championships, which is known as Champs and is Jamaica's biggest sporting event.
– What it was like interviewing Usain Bolt, Elaine Thompson-Herah and other stars
– An early assessment of the men's and women's sprints scene

World Championships are now over and we had so much to discuss, including:
Today on Group Chat we are joined by Laura Thweatt, Tommie Runz, Peter Bromka, Marcus Brown, and Matt Chittim. Also, quick correction, when Matt was listing Courtney Dauwalter's 2023 races he missed Trans Gran Canaria and said Canyons/Black Canyon by mistake.
We had a quick opportunity to catch Noah Lyles just a day after defending his 200m World Championship gold medal and winning the men's 100m for the first time. He is the first man to win the 100m and 200m at a global championship since Usain Bolt at the 2016 Olympics. In this brief chat, we catch up on the whirlwind of emotions following each victory, what message he sent to the haters and more.
Hosts: Chris Chavez and Kyle Merber

“Personally, it's always been the mission… We're willing to be patient. But we're also very keen on what the mission is. It’s not to stop at championships. It's not to stop at fast times. It's not to stop at American Records. It's not to get content. We are here to completely push the boundary every time. I'm very vocal about that...I've posted what my time goals are for the World Championships. I'm here to run 9.65 and I'm here to run 19.10. The crazy thing is it causes so much controversy. Why should my dream or belief cause controversy with you? It has nothing to do with you. If I don't get it, and if I do get it, how does it change your life? So many people want to have an opinion on it. And so many people want to tell me what I can and can't do. But you know what they can’t tell me? What I ran in practice yesterday. And I bet that's the information you need to know if I'm going to actually run it or not.”
Two-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Noah Lyles jins the CITIUS MAG Podcast to break down all of the biggest revelations in his new two-part documentary series with NBC Sports. "Untitled: The Noah Lyles Project" premieres on Friday, August 18 exclusively on Peacock. We managed to get an advanced look at the documentary and were able to record this interview before the series debuts.
At the upcoming World Championships in Budapest, Lyles will attempt to defend his 200m world title and has been open about the fact that he is trying to break Usain Bolt’s 200m world record. The documentary follows him in training, at the New York City Grand Prix, the U.S. Championship and Paris Diamond League.
Part II of the documentary series will follow him through the World Championships and will air on Friday, September 15 – one day before the Diamond League Final at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Happy Friday! This is the third edition of Track Snacks – a mini series taking you into the weekend where Chris Chavez and a fellow CITIUS MAG staffer share the story of an athlete who they're excited about right now that you can expect to see compete at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 (July 15–24, 2022).
In this episode, we're actually joined by the actual athlete. Marcell Jacobs is the reigning Olympic champion in the 100m, the reigning 60m world indoor champion and the European record holder in the men's 100 meters. Jacobs was one of the biggest surprises of the Tokyo Olympics when he ran the race of his life to become the first Olympic champion not named Usain Bolt since 2008. He proved it was no fluke by winning the World Indoor Championships in the 60m in a long-awaited clash against 2019 World Champion Christian Coleman. The fans are in for a real treat because they won't have to wait until July to see them go head-to-head again. This week. Prefontaine Classic race organizers announced Jacobs, Coleman, Olympic silver medalist Fred Kerley, Olympic bronze medalist Andre De Grasse, Noah Lyles, Marvin Bracy, Kenndy Bendarek and Ronnie Baker would be part of the deepest 100m race in history. It's the appetizer before the main course at Worlds.
Track Snacks is presented by Hayward Magic. Everyone knows how much all of us in the CITIUS MAG family love track & field, and how much we enjoy sharing that love with you all. Well, we’ve got a few big love-sharing ideas in the works and it all takes place in Eugene, Oregon this summer. Hayward Field will be the home to the Prefontaine Classic, the USATF Outdoor Championships and the World Athletics Championships. We'll be there and you should be too. Visit https://citiusmag.com/summerofhayward/ for all the information on dates and tickets.
Track Snacks is sponsored by @HaywardMagic, the Instagram home for the true track & field diehards, dreamers and fans. Sharing the magic of the sport and elevating the athletes that push it forward. Follow them on Instagram @HaywardMagic.

Justin Gatlin trains with Sha’Carri Richardson under coach Dennis Mitchell and is a polarizing figure in his own right, having served two doping bans during his long career. Since the early 2000s, Gatlin has been a world-class sprinter with a Jamaican rivalry of his own and battled Usain Bolt at several global championships. I caught up with him in the mixed zone at Hayward Field (which is why the audio isn't as clear) to briefly chat about how long he plans to continue going but also what it’s like to watch Sha'Carri come up as the next sprints star for the United States. He knows what it's like to be in the media spotlight and public’s crosshairs, where Sha'Carri found herself after her last-place finish at the Pre Classic behind the Jamaican sweep of the podium and Elaine Thompson-Herah’s 10.54 No. 2 all-time mark.
