The women’s race delivered, giving us the Obiri/Lokedi duel we’d been hoping for, although it didn’t quite last as long as we’d hoped with Lokedi fading towards the end. Instead, Sheila Chepkirui was the one who took the mantle of racing Obiri stride for stride and elbow for elbow. In the end, Chepkirui had a bit more kick and secured her first New York title.

The American women also performed quite well. I had predicted that Jess McClain would have a great day, which she did by coming in 8th overall as 2nd American. She was nudged out by last minute addition, Sara Vaughn, who had DNF’d in Chicago just a few weeks ago. I felt like Sara Vaughn finally got that solid marathon result that she’s been looking for in the past several builds, as did Kellyn Taylor, who came in 10th as the third American.
