Jay Johnson is a longtime distance running coach, author, and educator with more than 25 years of experience working with athletes at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels.
A former cross country and track athlete at the University of Colorado, Johnson competed under legendary coach Mark Wetmore and was part of the team featured in the acclaimed book Running with the Buffaloes. He later returned to Colorado as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, helping build a program that won four NCAA cross country national championships during his six-year tenure.
Johnson went on to coach professional runners, including three USATF national champions, before shifting much of his focus toward developing the next generation of distance runners. He is the author of Consistency Is Key: 15 Ways to Unlock Your Potential as a High School Runner, which has sold more than 23,000 copies, and the founder of Boulder Running Clinics, an annual gathering for high school cross country coaches.
Today, through CoachJayJohnson.com, his training resources, and educational content, Johnson helps high school athletes and coaches better understand training, injury prevention, and long-term development. He also works with families navigating the college recruiting process through Next Mile Recruiting.
