“I'm still processing everything. It still very much feels like a dream. I keep telling everyone that every morning I’ve woken up since the race, I keep having to check my phone, check the date, and make sure I’ve already raced and that it’s not coming up. I was like, ‘Wait, that actually happened, right?’ I feel like for me it’s been a lot of processing, a lot of pinch me moments, but a lot of joy.”
Sister duo Juliette and Isabella Whittaker join us live in Eugene after their breakout performances at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. Juliette qualified for her first Olympic team by placing third in the 800m and Isabella took 6th in the 400m final. The sisters share about how they were able to split their focus between the NCAA season and Olympic Trials, how they manage nerves before their races (and each other's races!) and lots more. Hear more from Juliette and Isabella in this episode of the CITIUS MAG Podcast.

“This year has just been so, so hard. My coaches and those around me can attest to that. There were a lot of days where I was like, ‘Track’s not fun anymore. Is this worth it? I don’t think this is going to work.’ The emotions coming from there to be like, ‘Wow, we really did this’ just all flooded out of me.”
Anna Hall joins us live in Eugene after winning the heptathlon title at the U.S. Olympic Trials, less than a year after undergoing knee surgery. Anna chats with us about the obstacles she overcame over the past few months to become the U.S. champion, the emotion she and her family shared together post-competition, and even gives us a peek inside her journal where she captured her thoughts throughout the meet. A day after earning a silver medal in the heptathlon at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, Chris Chavez had the pleasure of speaking with Anna Hall and Jackie Joyner-Kersee (the world record holder in the heptathlon and two-time Olympic gold medalist in the multis).
Hall became just the second American woman to win two World Championship medals in the heptathlon. Jackie Joyner-Kersee won gold in 1987 and 1993. Joyner-Kersee’s heptathlon world record total of 7,291 still stands but Hall could be the one to break it in the years to come. Thanks to Adidas for the opportunity to bring these two greats together!

On this week’s show, we had some fast times thrown down in Lievin, France where we saw several world-leading performances and a world record. We’re going to spend much of our time previewing the USATF Indoor Championships and the World Cross Country Championships this weekend.
Lievin World Indoor Tour: Lamecha Girma broke the indoor 3000m record with a 7:23.81; Meet records fell at the hands of Karsten Warholm, Keely Hodgkinson and Femke Bol. Jakob Ingebrigtsen is paying attention to the American stars now but says, 'I'm still the best.'
USATF Indoor Championships: Many of the top stars are absent from this meet since there is no World Indoor Championships this year. Noah Lyles is still the premier star showing up for the men's 60m. Major props to the likes of Aleia Hobbs, Anna Hall, Whittni Morgan, Cole Hocker, Clayton Murphy, Bryce Hoppel and others for contesting the meet.
World Cross Country Championships: The race will be held in Mount Panorama Circuit in Australia. If you want to watch, tune in on Friday, Feb. 17, at 11:30 p.m. ET on Peacock. It’s a 2K loop. People will be running through a vineyard at times. Possibly some kangaroo sightings. Very hot conditions. Should be spicy with Joshua Cheptegei, Selemon Barega, Letesenbet Gidey and Francine Niyonsaba among the stars competing.

“I went into NCAAs thinking, ‘I need to perform for my team.’ In those times that you’re doubting yourself, that’s partly why our team is so special. I see how hard my teammates work and I think, ‘OK. I owe them my best performance.’ Even if I don’t think I can pull it out for myself, I can pull it out for them.”
You can make the case that Anna Hall is the best athlete on the University of Florida campus, which is wild considering all their sports teams. She won the heptathlon and finished second in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships. It was one of the most impressive performances. That’s seven events and two rounds of the 400m hurdles all out. I’m tired just thinking about it. She is also the U.S. champion from the USATF Combined Events Championships in May and has qualified for Team USA for the upcoming World Championships. She’s been a multis star since high school. We go back to those days, why she gravitates towards challenging things, how she overcame disappointment from getting injured at last year’s Olympic Trials and how she views her potential across so many different events.
