Olympic Champ. World Champ. Millrose Champ. The pre-race buzz around the men’s two mile centered on whether anyone could challenge Josh Kerr’s world record. When Fisher scratched just hours before the start due to illness, the entire dynamic shifted. Eric Jenkins: “Genuinely the worst news you can get... If one guy scratches from the two mile—you hope it’s literally anyone but Grant Fisher. As soon as Grant Fisher’s out, they go, ‘Well, time’s out the window.’” What unfolded was a tactical chess match that showcased the race IQ of 5000m World champion Cole Hocker. Rather than chasing pacer Ben Allen‘s early hot pace, Hocker sat back and dictated a tempo that was fast enough to hurt but slow enough to preserve his devastating kick—all from the front. Kyle Merber: “Cole sat right off and he didn’t go. He made sure he goes, ‘I am not going to just be the one to go at this insane pace.’ I’m going to sit back. He’s so good at doing just fast enough that no one’s going to go around him, but slow enough that he’s going to have the best kick.” Aisha Praught-Leer: “When you hit that icky in-between pace, it doesn’t feel comfortable, but you see the time on the clock psychologically. If I’m Ethan Strand, I’m thinking like, ‘Hey, we’re going slower than I thought we were, but it still really hurts. I’m uncomfortable. I’m not sure what to do.’ Cole did it right and it started building that doubt in your competitors. It’s a brilliant, brilliant move to do.” Hocker ultimately won in 8:07.31 with Kerr taking second in 8:07.68. Parker Wolfe ran tough for third place in 8:07.83. 3000m steeplechase World champion George Beamish charged to 10th place with 400m to go to 5th after sitting nearly last for much of the race. Extra kudos to pacer Ben Allen, who adjusted his strategy on the fly when Hocker didn’t immediately attach. Kyle Merber: “Ben Allen did such an unbelievable job pacing. He allowed them to settle a little and then cut in and take the pace, which allowed Cole to immediately latch on. At some point, it became clear to him that Cole was not on top of him. He does little look-backs over the shoulder, which is allowed and encouraged if you’re the rabbit, and he stepped out on the turn a little bit, got on the outside of the lane, and slowed it down just a hair—nothing dramatic, but just enough to allow Cole to reattach. Without him, this becomes a totally different 8:15 race.” 🎥 Watch the full post-race show here: https://youtu.be/RWcntefA9PA?si=7s5qBTu-hIefGq7T 🎧 Take it on-the-go and listen to it in podcast form here: ▶️ APPLE PODCASTS: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/2026-millrose-games-post-race-show-live-from-the/id1204506559?i=1000747628064 ▶️ SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7hnfSviJVUsg0blvf0Y0hR?si=4WdLGfq_ShKkajr0Jzbiwg __________ FOLLOW CITIUS MAG ▶ Subscribe to the podcast: https://apple.co/3Byp72I ▶ On Twitter: http://twitter.com/CitiusMag ▶ On Instagram: http://instagram.com/citiusmag ▶ On Facebook: http://facebook.com/citiusmag ▶ Support us on Patreon: https://patreon.com/citiusmag ▶ On our website: http://citiusmag.com For other inquiries, contact us: chris@citiusmag.com Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, and subscribe! – Elle St. Pierre won the 3000 just eight months after having her second baby with a 8:26.54 victory over Australia’s Linden Hall in a last-lap surge.
– Jereem Richards took the men’s 300m 32.14 to 32.15 win, despite Noah Lyles’ WWE-style entrance from the stands.
– Cian McPhillips won the men’s 600m in 1:16.37, surged late to win over American hopefuls.
– Roisin Willis ran 1:59.59 wire-to-wire to win her professional debut.
Elsewhere:
– Cooper Lutkenhaus ran 1:45.23 to win the 800m, smashing the World Indoors standard at the Dr. Sander Invitational.
– 5000m World champion Cole Hocker opened his indoor season at the Hokie Invitational and broke the U.S. 2000m record in 4:52.92 just 24 hours before Kessler and Fisher took it down.
– New Zealand’s 16-year-old running phenom Sam Ruthe clocked a 3:53.83 mile at the Cooks International Classic — the fastest U16 mile in history.
Other news discussed:
– Two-time Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone announced Thursday she is expecting her first child with husband Andre Levrone Jr.
– Grant Fisher will make his half marathon debut at the NYC Half in March.
– Jakob Ingebrigtsen update: In a profile with The Guardian, he said: “I’ve fed my obsession my whole life” and added that he might be “autistic” due to his all-in intensity and singular focus. He also said he is still haunted by finishing 4th in the 1500m at Paris 2024. “Nine out of 10 times I win that race. That was the 10th.”

Double Olympic bronze medalist Grant Fisher and 1500m Olympic champion and 5000m World champion Cole Hocker will renew their rivalry for a rematch in the two-mile at the Millrose Games on February 1st, 2026 at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City. The Millrose Games are the second stop in the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold calendar. “Millrose is the place to be,” Hocker says. “The performances match the atmosphere, and anytime something’s in New York, it’s going to be special. The crowd feels like it’s right on top of the track, which is great for racing. And the stadium setup just creates this amazing energy. Highly recommend going if you haven’t.” Last year’s 3000m duel between the two was arguably one of the greatest races in U.S. history. The two American greats took advantage of near-flawless pacing through 1800m before Fisher took control of the race and laid down back-to-back sub-30-second laps (29.82-29.81) but Hocker refused to break. With three laps remaining in the race, Hocker boldly swung to the lead and pushed with a 29.08 and then a 28.86, but Fisher stayed on him. The bell lap produced one of the most memorable finishes of the 2025 indoor track season as Fisher clawed back on the last bend and crossed the finish line first in 7:22.91 for a new world record. Hocker followed in 7:23.14. Both men were under Lamecha Girma’s previous world record of 7:23.81. It was a perfect snapshot of why the Millrose Games endures as one of the best meets in the world. “You’re guaranteed electric performances and most years you get several historic ones,” Fisher says. “It’s my favorite indoor meet: intimate, loud, historic building…. The atmosphere is unreal. Everyone shows up ready for a battle.” At the 2024 edition of the meet, two-time 1500m Olympic medalist Josh Kerr shattered countryman Mo Farah’s two-mile world record with a 8:00.67 victory. Fisher finished him in 8:03.62 for the third-fastest time in history and the American record. Hocker is No. 6 all-time with his 8:05.70 personal best. The full field will be announced at a later date. Marco Arop delivered a deceptively dominant performance in the Men’s 800m at Grand Slam Track Kingston, clocking 1:45.13 to win by over a second in windy conditions. The time may not seem spectacular for the 1:41.20 man—but it’s all about context. Arop powered through headwinds, led from the front, and still comfortably dropped Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who finished second (+1.31), and Bryce Hoppel (+1.89). Meanwhile, Olympic 1500m medalists Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse, and Josh Kerr all struggled—Kerr faded to last in 1:50.68 after battling a lingering hip injury. Despite the loss, Wanyonyi’s second-place finish, combined with his 1500m win on Saturday, earned him the $100,000 Slam Champion title in the Men’s Short Distance event group. Emmanuel Wanyonyi stepped into the spotlight and didn’t blink. In one of the most stacked races of the weekend—featuring the full Olympic 1500m podium of Cole Hocker, Josh Kerr, and Yared Nuguse—it was 19-year-old Wanyonyi, better known for his 800m prowess, who owned the moment. With 40 meters to go, Wanyonyi turned on the jets, taunted his competition, and powered to a massive 3-second personal best of 3:35.18 to beat Nuguse (3:35.36) and Hocker (3:35.52) in an early signature win for both his career and the Grand Slam Track league. This was just his third-ever 1500m—and his first against a world-class field. As a Challenger in the new Grand Slam Track league, Wanyonyi was required to run both the 800m and 1500m. The result? A statement-making victory that may change how the world sees him. 📈 Top Results 🥇 Emmanuel Wanyonyi – 3:35.18 (PB) 🥈 Yared Nuguse – 3:35.36 🥉 Cole Hocker – 3:35.52 4️⃣ Josh Kerr – 3:36.23 FOLLOW CITIUS MAG ▶ Subscribe to the podcast: https://apple.co/3Byp72I ▶ On Twitter: http://twitter.com/CitiusMag ▶ On Instagram: http://instagram.com/citiusmag ▶ On Facebook: http://facebook.com/citiusmag ▶ Support us on Patreon: https://patreon.com/citiusmag ▶ On our website: http://citiusmag.com For other inquiries, contact us: chris@citiusmag.com Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, and subscribe!
