If memory serves me right, in 2019 Hoka was the first to respond in the carbon plate wars with their Carbon Rocket. It was a 26mm stack height shoe with a 1mm drop but a super fun plate. It wasn’t the marathon racer we were hoping for, but it showed potential. And over the next 5 years, Hoka would continue to iterate with 3 Carbon X’s, 2 Rocket X’s, and the first Cielo X1. However, after 7 attempts, Hoka still didn’t quite have a racing shoe that I thought belonged in that top tier of marathon racers. But this is the Cielo X1 2.0. And Hoka’s finally got it right.
